I like this doorway -- look at the mailboxes!

shanghai_highways.jpg
this is looking from the Bund (on the other side of the river from Pudong) at the colonial era city. you can see the crown-top building next to our hotel.

shanghai_restaurant_1.jpg
many food-service establishments spill over into the street

shanghai_restaurant_2.jpg
this one has a neat set-up: kitchen spilling over, contained dining-room above -- all fit into one storefront!

dumpling_shop.jpg
this soup dumpling shop is extremely popular, kinda the Katz's Deli of Shanghai

shanghai_alleyway.jpg
there are many beautiful alleyways in Shanghai

another one

old_shanghai.jpg
by now we had made our way into the French Concession, another older neighborhood in Shanghai -- it felt kinda like San Francisco. I don't know if you can see it clearly here, but one unique tradition in Shanghai is hanging laundry on bamboo poles rather than clothes lines...

lady cutting and drying fish and chickens -- wow.
