word virus: mean vs. nasty

Mean is not the opposite of nice. The rise of the notion of "mean girls" a mis-direct.

Mean refers to an emotional stinginess, not to nastiness. Many people are quite generous with their venom. Much preferable to meanness, as something of social use can be produced (even if only the reaction of recoil & destroy, like to a snake).

The worst of all are the mean & nice. Nice and nothing. The rise of a type -- women and girls who want no-one to have anything on them, give nothing to object to, even at the cost of being nothing. This is the worse danger.

Oscar tie-in: Reese Witherspoon is just such a nothing.
