Words are our weapons

somewhere between Cincinnati and Sarasota

"[T]he main founding act of the EZLN was learning to listen and to speak."
-Subcomandante Insurgente Marcos

[I have been chewing over a nice piece of writing from Subcomandante Marcos for almost a month now. There's lot in there, so take a look yourself.]

In a fit of despair in the week before the 11th, I said to molly it was as though 9/11 had never happened. No difference in outlook, just more justification for Bush and his cronies (or rather, Bush and his masters); no room for talking about the world in a new way; no change, no development.

"You couldn't be more wrong," she said. "Everything has changed. There is no more tolerance for hysterical nonsense and turning on each other when the shit comes down."

She was right, and her words carried an additional weight because I knew that there was more that she did not say, or if she did, I didn't yet understand. These are words we must listen for: what is September 11th? Because to listen and to say develop together:

so keep telling the story...Words Are Our Weapons.

the american folk waters parted on 9/11

today some surf the waves on either side
most still run up the dry middle hoping the waves stay up and away from them
they won't
