this is how john dewey saw things
circa 1900
a democratic
nation of small farmers
wants cheap land
hence the homestead movement
a democratic nation
of wage jobsters
wants cheap training
hence
the free public school movement
well no thats not exactly
either dewey
or reality
but close enough
and both movements
caused the opposite
of their intentions
by the swamping of markets
