when is a wage a just wage and when is it just a wage ? exploitation does not show on the capitalists control panel unlike wage and profit rate equalization exploitation rates equalization is not a spontaneous product of the system's "self interested monads'" struggle dynamics ========================== this post is a mess but very important even if i can't get it correctly squared away ----------------------------------------- remember the use value is all the buyer pays for a barber cuts your hair you pay him he can't say oh and also theres an exploitation rate sur charge on my value added nope that would be like a value added tax only the guy down the street works for himself he's got no surcharge so i take the exploitation hit and afterwards either i go to work for myself or i stay cause i don't have the cred yet to get my own customers directly what ever what ever the point is simple the profit has to come out of some where "inside' the exchange value of the use value ----------------------------------------------- in the classic situation most favorable to the profiteers reputation as cleos innovators a little something up my gilder sleeve ilike a "cost saving method " or a" productivity enhancing " machine or technique or some shit like a skill strip by lower skill specialization or or or whatever its a technical innovation that's whats gonna allow me to pay a barber as much as he could earn on his own because under my direction with my tools and system he can cut more hair per hour or cut the same amount better or some combo of the two i can eeck a profit out between the barbers self employment earning power and the market price for a hair cut take my piece without the barber feeling the clip ----------------------------- heres the problem surely by burger right one would like to equalize exploitation make it'" level fair" burger mmorality compells we have a system that makes the profit rip the vap rate so to speak the rate of profit out of value added or the (V)alue (A)dded (P)rofit rate equal on a % basis across all wage tasks but thats not likely to happen to say the least and whats more nobody on either side not the profiteer or the wageling gives a shit about the injustice of it all cause no one can usually tell if some other dink has a lower exploitation rate so fucking what as I like sayin wage MEASURED AGAINST wage thats the prole cat yard stick say in fact some ass holes got himself the best case possible his value added equals his wage and he's exploitation free so what shit i'm making more per hour ---------------------------------------- but then who can see exploitation rates ? in the real mess of the market world around uz where the various exploitation rates of the different wageling jobs can't even be determined cause they're all jumbled up jointly producing something.... say i'm working three hundred souls doing say 15 sets of heterogenious tasks in succession to produce a single type of product I'm paying the various wageling types the prevailing wage for their job whatever the fuck that is and at worsed wage is what they're worth in value added thats by definition ( we won't let em go beyond that to where they're some how worth less in value added then their wage and share in the exploitation of the rest of the work force because among other more technical reasons to go further in that direction to actually pierce the mirror k leads only to fruitless pardoxes further indeterminations and futile confusions that way folly abound at any rate other then the exploitation free chap(s) the rest are where my porfits come from ------------------------------------------------ now how do i figure my profit per head here? if i can count a task in units well i can piece work that task but how do i cross value the various different tasks? except by working back from the prevailing wage that task commands on the market in the short run the system is circular and i can't know from whence my profit specifically comes if i'm mr clark i'll try acting like a function and vary each input while holding the others constant and see the change in out put more a types less z types etc get juggled around till i've got my cost min combo this is non sense in fact i hack away at the most expensive wage types brake up their tasks into simpler skill sets maybe i have to change scale produce out of a bigger production set up to get there the point is i'm not trying to equalize exploitation at each task but maximize it in its totality there is no " just " set of wage rates that means a damn thing at least not in the sense of an equal exploitation set of wage rates ---------------------------------------------------------- imagine the work force of mine all went into business as proprietors at each stage of production i like a lucretian demon bought the ouput of each and sold it to the proprietor working the next stage could i be sure to produce an even rate of margin on each re- sale ? would i try? no especially not if i had demon competitors criss crossing these same production lines then each wageling type would collect a rent essentially an exogenous revenue stream based on the relevant array of entry and opportunity costs --------------------------------------- as far as the systems dynamics any profiteers ingenious above wage rate value added rate would remain as un reducible to equalization as unequally fertile pieces of land which is no different of course then the nimble piece workers higher then average hourly compensation ---------------------------------------- as long as tasks are balled up together extricably each single task just linked into a lot of other tasks provided by other types of wagelingers how the fuck can i really know the mrginal value of each task's least productive hour ? hence the rule of profiteering is rough and ready pay what little i can for what ever work i have to buy to get the product made the cheapest way possible that increases my profit even as it may further unequalize my various exploitation rates the sole rule of thumb cut it where you can cut it and why not a dollar saved no matter where is a dollar earned the progressive picture of technical progress propelled along by technical simplification and mechanization and the consequent reduction in total work hours contained falls to the bottomline no matter where the time is saved or the skill intensity reduced a profit dollar is a profit dollar ------------------------------------------ ok so maybe if theres a huge wage rate variation in side my work force i 'll try harder (whatever that means) to reduce the high cost wagery tasks cause i get more profit buck for the bang ======================== conclusions: cost min on all fronts holds and some wage types may add only as much value as they cost and no one cares one way or the other --------------------------------------Posted by pinky at September 10, 2004 07:27 AM
