all those carriers and all those
carrier support ships 
can be eliminated 
  by a  generation of 
land and space based systems  
 now on the drafting boards

as one deeply off duty staffer put it to me 

 “if the job is dropping bombs
 or firing rockets 
from the air
 thats our job
 if we can get there
fast and frequent 
and do it all 
 straight  from bases in the states
  who needs carriers anymore”

   the navy  highwhigs
 needless to say 
      are  on the bum over this 

 heres how it went down 

  the debriefs on Kosovo and 
Afghanistan  and now Iraq 
 all point to one big fat toad 
  in the soup 
you guessed it 
 the fast carrier fleet  
  
  
 1.fast  carriers are way too  slow to deploy 
they're often
 weeks at sea before positioning

 todays crises require hours
to the target  not days and weeks

2.fast carriers  are quickly  becoming 
  stupid vulnerable “ behemoths ”

  once they finally arrive
 in the conflict zone 
 newer generation land based   missiles
  even in the hands of backward hostiles  
 can  “ blow them out of the game 
easier then the devil flips a whore ” 

most importantly 

  3.they consistently show 
 rediculously  low    asset utilization

sortie rates 

payloads 
 
cost of “ non biting”
 support assets  

 you name it

and throw in 
all that painfully slow   turn around
 action 

well  
on all counts 
you got " kill weights "
 way below
 land based airfleets 

 cost 
 force  effectivenes 
 efficiency  

bing bing bing 

bye bye carriers

 and  its not just ramjet types 
in  air force azure 
 pushing these ideas

 neutral  civilian eggheads
 are keen too

  the cross hairs are 
  on the flat tops

of a tomato ready  opera company "
