we spent our time

and throwing around our bulk

the  great war
in fact
that  turned us into

cause all that trench digging and gas

but we're a modest peoples 
homey and domestic 
so naturally 
 it took winning a two ocean war 
and rebuilding western europe
to make the bull side of us 
internationally minded 
at any rate 
one way or other 
by 1950 
corporate America was
comfortable as hell with its greatness 
and by the way not  about 
to let  any serious part 
of its world wide holdings  
slip away behind 
a russian red wall 

at least not without
 a taffy pull 

of course we big picture capitalists 
 knew the reds would fail eventually
 collapse under their own weight 

they had to
 without markets and profit guidance 
their  system was running on 
borrowed  time from day zero 

like a  man with
a hole in his  stomach
the reds  could keep shoving it in 
 
but once the body had
time  to feel the hunger   
well.........

 the reds simply  pass out

still eating right up to the end

so the long run looked great
for profits and america 
but who cares about long runs
that's for losers 
 in the interim before the reds fell

 when it was more pretext then anything else
