the cost of 45 years or residential zoning
according to a new harvard study:
if we east coast sub urbanites
had maintained
community permitting of new homes
at the 1960 rate
today
housing would cost 35% less
now to get the real % cost
we need to take that difference
not out of the whole package
but
out of lot values
of course
cause you'd pay the same price
to build the house itself
either way
zoning cost is even higher
as a percent of its proper base
when we isolate its source
culprit number one:
minimum lot size restrictions
and the artificial scarcity
of living space it produces
